Dear students and parents,
I would like to welcome you for the winter pottery season. We are calling
this section of our set up Clay Club at Alka. This summer was one of our
busiest as far as pottery is concerned. We organized a pottery festival which
included a children’s festival, a ceramics seminar and three exhibitions, two
of which were of works done by students at our Clay Club. We were also
featured in the times of Malta Junior News, the last two weeks, and also
on other media. Classes and outings from summer schools and other groups were
also thankfully very numerous.
During our public sessions we also made four large ceramic murals from tiles which the children themselves made. The titles of these murals were Dairy Products which was sponsored by Benna, Underwater, Flora and Fauna and The Human Body. These will eventually be put up in public places such as schools and gardens. We would like to thank those who participated in our public pottery events and exhibitions, those who sent in their consent form and photos for publication in the Junior New of the Times of Malta and those who were part of our clay Club this past exciting summer. To see pictures and video of activities of Malta Ceramic Festival visit my facebook page Joan Haber. We’re again proposing our now popular pottery classes for adults and children. Working with clay is an activity which is appropriate for almost every child’s developmental level. Clay naturally stimulates a child’s curiosity. It is a strong expressive medium ideal for enhancing children’s development and learning and naturally leads into problem solving as children are challenged to overcome the limitations. Adults who have attended know what a most relaxing and captivating activity working with clay is. We thank those who send in their appreciation for our sessions and promise to keep doing them from our hearts, giving the children the maximum benefit from these classes to make them a cultural and educational experience which is also relaxing and enjoyable. While wishing you a great scholastic year, we look forward to welcome many of you for the wonderful experience of feeling clay transforming into an art or craft object with simple techniques which we will keep on introducing. Best regards, Joan Haber |
