The mother of "San Vittore"

Sister Enrichetta was born on February 23rd 1871, she joined the Sisters of Charity on the 20th of December 1911. At 29 years of age, she fell ill and had to stay in bed for four whole years. It was a time of pain and suffering, at the end of which she recovered her health and strengthened her faith and trust in God. She was given the mission of working in the prison of "San Vittore" in Milan (Italy), where she was in charge of the women's section. There, for 20 years, she learnt to be very close to those who suffered. Her love and concern for each one gave her the nickname of "the mother of San Vittore". Thanks to her smile and gentleness, many people found the hope and courage to live a new life. Many of them were helped to discover the infinite love of God!

Between September and December of 1944 she was kept prisoner in a concentration camp, with the fear of being shot. During that time she kept a small diary about her feelings, thoughts and fears. However, her writings also show us that she had great faith in God and that she always believed he would help her, so she never gave up.

Sister Enrichetta died on November 23, 1951. The process has started to proclaim her a saint.
